SOCAP2015 Recap

Members of BFI’s network attended the SOCAP2015 conference in San Francisco, California, which was held from October 6-9 at the Fort Mason Center.

In keeping with its eight-year history, SOCAP15 featured content from across the growing landscape of social capital with a focus on innovative investing and entrepreneurship for impact.

The SOCAP community tackled various topics and themes, boiling down to one major question: What does it mean to build a marketplace at the intersection of money and meaning in a world facing growing economic inequality, racial injustice, ongoing humanitarian crises, and climate change?

This year’s event had record attendance, with over 2,600 participants from nearly 60 different countries.

A recent Huffington Post article emphasized the importance of systems-level problem solving in order to face the world’s challenges, and highlighted impact investment as a sector that has strongly embraced whole systems thinking. In particular, SOCAP has served as the “biggest convener of all the main stakeholders in the industry”.
