IPCC report released

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) released its Fifth Assessment Report on climate change, the most recent cycle since the Fourth AR in 2007.

In this latest report, produced by 1250 international experts and approved by 194 governments in the UN system, has included a much larger base of scientific data that demonstrates the very real effects from a changing climate – including shifting precipitation patterns, altered geographical ranges for animals, increased climate-related extreme weather, reduced crop yields, and other public health impacts – which are being observed right now.

It also outlines various adaptation and mitigation measures that are being put in place, highlighting the need for redoubled efforts in both the political and technological realms to address the systemic nature of the issue.

While this latest Assessment Report does fill in the information, will the effectiveness of this straightforward data-based presentation be enough to avert the worst of the projected effects?
