Fighting Fire with Finance

The Center for the Force Majeure, finalists of the Fuller Challenge, are eco-artists who take a whole systems approach, merging environmental, social and economic patterns of organization with the goal of generating comprehensive complex systems where human stewardship is a the service of environmental stewardship. Their project, Saving The West, does just that by outlining a fire mitigation plan for the 11 states that comprise the American West. Through controlled burning and selective thinning we can prevent catastrophic fire while creating jobs. One way to fund this is through Blue Forest Conservation and their Forest Resiliency Bond, an environmental impact bond that earns a return from the public utilities that save money from not having to fight fires.
