Rebuild by Design: The Book

In response to Hurricane Sandy’s devastation in the Northeast United States, US HUD Secretary Donovan launched the Rebuild by Design Hurricane Sandy Design Competition, with partner organizations The Institute for Public Knowledge at NYU, The Municipal Art Society, the Regional Plan Association and The Van Alen Institute in June 2013.

This new take on the design competition helped to develop innovative, implementable solutions to respond to the region’s most complex needs and later become a model for cities around the world to encourage collaborative research and design processes to re-imagine regional infrastructure in the wake of our changing climate.

On September 28, 2015 Rebuild by Design launched a new book telling the story about the approach, the research, the collaborators, and the comprehensive projects that were created from this award-winning process.
