We manufacture and distribute low-cost, high-quality products carefully designed to meet the unique needs of women in low-resource settings, comprehensively targeting the entire Continuum of reproductive, maternal, newborn, child and adolescent health (RMNCH+A) for intergenerational well-being.

Bamboo Composite Reinforcement
2015 Catalyst Program

The objective of this project is to replace the conventional steel reinforcement in structural concrete by newly developed bamboo composite materials. Steel production is pricey, energy consuming and only available in developed countries. Therefore, all developing countries have to rely on steel imports, which make building construction rather costly.

Barefoot College
2008 Runner-Up

Barefoot College is a non-governmental organization that has been providing basic services and solutions to problems in rural communities for more than forty years, with the objective of making them self-sufficient and sustainable.

2017 Winner

The Sustainable Green Initiative Forum has designed Bhungroo (in Gujarati, “straw” or “hollow pipe”), an innovative technology that can filter, inject, and store storm water up to a depth of 300 meters in the subsoil.

Bioenergy Value Chain
2013 Semi-Finalist

Bioenergy Value Chain, or Abellon Clean Energy, is a comprehensive clean-energy system: they buy excess agricultural waste from local farmers (typically either burned, causing air pollution and respiratory illness, or ineffectively composted, releasing methane), and turn that plant material into efficient and clean-burning ‘pellets’ that can then power industrial plants, businesses and small homes.

2016 Catalyst Program

BHM supports community-based backpack medics who administer village health care services in Burma, grassroots education projects that empower the youth of Burma and projects that promote cross-cultural sharing and collaboration for refugees from Burma living in the U.S.

Chalo is a design initiative that encourages systematic change in textile waste recycling by building an innovative business model with economic, social, and environmental implications in both large and small-scale garment production. The approach is holistic with a three-pronged strategy; business collaboration, design mentorship, and storytelling.

Our strategy is to prevent extreme pollution from increasing volumes of poorly handled electronic-waste by transforming current practices through a systems approach. We link fragmented actors as a chain to develop multiple capacities and leadership, resulting in safe recycling, not dumping of E-Waste, augmented green livelihoods for wastepickers and community.

Clean Irrigation Solution
2014 Catalyst Program

SUMMARY: iDE’s Clean Irrigation Solution (CIS) system increases smallholder farmers’ agricultural productivity in developing countries by offering an affordable, appropriately designed, and desirable clean energy alternative to fossil-fuel pumps.

SUMMARY: India’s health workforce improves millions of lives but is limited by persistent challenges of training, supervising, and monitoring. We seek to overcome these challenges and unlock the tremendous potential of India’s health program with CommCare, an innovative, cost-effective, scalable mobile health platform for use by community health workers (CHWs).

Communitere builds capacity and community for holistic recovery in developing world post-disaster scenarios. Our inclusive design, maker-oriented ethos lifts all stakeholders in a process resulting in a locally-owned resource for those impacted by disaster to design and rebuild their own communities, and provide access to world-class advanced technology and design.

SUMMARY: Drinkwell blends novel water filtration technology that disrupts current best practice reverse osmosis with a micro-franchise business model to transform existing arsenic and/or fluoride-affected tubewells into clean water systems that generate jobs, clean water, and improve health outcomes across the developing world.

SUMMARY: Our interdisciplinary team has developed a low cost, robust, and reliable arsenic removal technology, Electro-Chemical Arsenic Remediation (ECAR), to sustainably provide affordable, environmentally friendly arsenic-safe drinking water to arsenic-affected communities.

Ecosoftt is an emerging Singapore and India-based social enterprise that is the first to develop decentralized, adaptable, chemical-free, cost-effective water systems that combine rainwater harvesting, wastewater recycling, groundwater replenishment and other technological innovations in Asia.

Empower Generation
2017 Catalyst Program

Empower Generation (EG) seeds and supports women-led clean energy enterprises serving Nepal's energy poor. We envision a world where women lead the clean energy revolution, reducing deforestation and fossil fuel use. Our entrepreneur network enables clean energy technology suppliers access to remote markets where their products are in high demand.

Fighting SAM (Severe Acute Malnutrition) in India

SUMMARY: Produce shelf stable, high energy, high protein ready to eat food products suitable for community-based treatment of Severe Acute Malnutrition for children under 5 years old. We will utilize locally available ingredients and transfer the technology to women-led local self help groups and small scale enterprises to promote self sufficiency.

Forests Survival Leadership
2014 Catalyst Program

SUMMARY: For the next 2 years we set up a network of active forest defenders through which we engage 1,000 local leaders throughout Southeast Asia. The victims of deforestation, biodiversity loss, climatic disasters, cultural and political oppresion, shall now lead the movement for survival, resilience, and recovery of forests and peoples.

G-Pod is a building system, with each individual pod's being capable of functioning autonomously or able to be interlinked with others to form more consolidated structures. G-pods, in both single and multi pod configurations, are readily deployable and can be easily dismantled, restructured, reused and re-located with minimal environmental impact.

SUMMARY: GOONJ is challenging traditional models of treating old household material as charity instead turning it into powerful tool for social change and a new currency for rural development. Instead of charity this material is given as reward, with dignity to rural communities solving their problems with their own wisdom.
