Mark Beam
Mark is Senior Advisor to Halloran Philanthropies investing
internationally in micro-finance, sustainable energy, business impact
and community empowerment including The Oaxaca Hub - a space and
network in Oaxaca, Mexico supporting social innovation and well-being
from the ground up.
Mark is a Co-Founder of the Social Capital Markets Conference on money
and meaning in San Francisco; co-author with Calvert Founder Wayne
Silby of the Enterprise Innovation Fund designed to foster social
enterprise development; and Partner in BeDo, a platform and strategic
consulting firm that helps to align companies business and social
agenda. Before turning his attention to the development of the social
capital markets Mark was a senior executive for several major Wall
Street banks in Chicago, Los Angeles and New York, and a new media
entrepreneur in San Francisco. He continues to live in Oaxaca with his two sons Weston & Sky.
Kirk Bergstrom
Dr. Kirk Bergstrom, founder and president of WorldLink, has led the organization’s media, education, and civic engagement programs for more than 20 years. As a media designer, Kirk has developed and produced award-winning public television, interactive multimedia, museum exhibits, and educational curricula. He directed the PBS special Nourish: Food + Community, which explores the possibilities of a sustainable food system, and a companion PBS program Power Shift: Energy + Sustainability. He also directed and produced Spaceship Earth: Our Global Environment, winner of two national Emmy Awards. Kirk is the senior designer of Interactive Earth: Tools for Earth System Science, an innovative geospatial software program for schools and science centers. He has spoken widely on the topic of Education for a Green Economy, including presentations at the White House, National Science Foundation, and NOAA.
Jim Fournier
Jim Fournier is Chairman & President of Planetwork NGO, Inc, a San Francisco based network using information technology to address the pressing issues of our time – ecological, social & economic justice, and true democracy. In 2000, Planetwork convened the first international conference on global ecology and information technology, and has continued to host major conferences and gatherings since then. Long before anyone had ever heard of social media, Planetwork convened the early conversation around creating an online social network to empower individuals and civil society, and published the ASN White Paper in 2003.
Sean Holt
Sean Holt is the founder and chief alchemist at Om Ventures, a collaborative consultancy serving organizations, investors and governments committed to regenerative enterprise and artistic endeavor. Om takes a holistic approach to strategy and execution, integrating best practices spanning for/non profit realms and structuring full spectrum support from governments, philanthropies, corporates and investors to diversify risk and accelerate deployment of transformative initiatives. Om’s collaborators and clients include Cazneau Group, Global Exchange, Good Capital, Indigenous Designs, MaRS Discovery District, Reos Partners, Root Capital, RSF Social Finance, Skoll Centre for Social Enterprise, Sustainable Food Lab, Total Impact Advisors and many more. Prior to founding Om, Sean helped to launch several cutting edge technology ventures and an arts/education foundation, after beginning his career in investment banking and private equity investing. He studied economics at Cornell University where he was a Tradition Fellow, and received an MBA from Oxford University where he was a Skoll Scholar. After stints in the US and UK, Sean now hangs his hat in Toronto, where he enjoys hunting affordable fashion, practicing yoga, cooking for his lovely lady, DJing for friends and generally keeping folks guessing.
Martin Leaf
Martin Leaf, has been a practicing lawyer in New York for over four decades creating and representing successful joint ventures and business relationships among major companies in Japan and throughout the world, managing litigation internationally, and handling dispute resolution, complex contract negotiations and First Amendment and intellectual property rights cases . He is advisor to multi-national and domestic, high tech companies, management consulting and corporate training firms as well as well-known persons in the creative and performing arts. Having represented the American Society of Journalist and Authors, Mr. Leaf continues to represent authors in their contract negotiations.Martin Leaf has been a member of the American Bar Association Sections on the Judiciary, Business Law, Far Eastern and Litigation Law Committees. His professional memberships include New York State Bar Association, Association of Trial Lawyers in America, The Union Internationale des Avocats and The Federal Bar Council. He has also served as a member of New York City Lawyer's Association Committee on Professional Ethics, as an Arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association since 1965 and was an Associate Editor, American Trial Lawyers Association Journal, 1963-1973. Mr. Leaf has been director of many non-profit organizations including Buckminster Fuller Institute, National Black Theater, John Denver's Windstar Foundation, Trail Blazers Camps, Pro Musicis, and served as a delegate to the Non Governmental Organization of the United Nations, as a Special Assistant District Attorney for Westchester County and as Village Attorney for Hastings-on-Hudson from 1969 to 1982.
Michael Madnick
Michael is Senior Vice President of Global Philanthropy with CCS, a 65 year old international fundraising and philanthropy consulting firm, with over 200 employees across the US, Canada and Europe. Michael has served in various leadership positions in the
international philanthropy arena, and most recently served as the Deputy
Executive Director for the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN). Prior
to this position he was Deputy Director for Global Health Policy and
Advocacy at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, where he managed
portfolios spanning government relations and issue advocacy, while also
spearheading a new "Emerging Donors" initiative, intended to cultivate major
and new philanthropic resources and partnerships for global issues. Michael
also served for many years as the Senior Vice President at the United
Nations Foundation, where he institutionalized an organization-wide
partnership approach to generate additional financial and other support for
UN causes. Michael currently serves on a number of other non-profit Boards and committees, including, Friends of the Global Fight Against AIDS, TB and Malaria (member of Executive Committee), GAIN USA, MTV’s Staying Alive Foundation, The Global Philanthropy Forum Steering Committee (for ten years); and Refugees International In 2010 Michael published a chapter titled, “Global Philanthropy in the Era of Turner & Gates: Collaboration, Scale and Leverage Re-imagined,” in a book of essays titled, “Global Philanthropy.” Michael holds an undergraduate degree from the State
University of New York at Albany, a law degree from Pace University, and resides in Washington, D.C. with his wife and daughter.
Jonathan Marvel
Jonathan Marvel, Co-Principal (with Rob Rogers), Rogers Marvel Architects (RMA). RMA is a multidisciplinary practice of 45 architects, landscape architects, urban designers, preservationists, and product designers, working on a wide range of projects including museums, schools, and public spaces. A small satellite office in Cody, Wyoming focuses on houses and land planning. Jonathan and Rob also co-founded TRUCK Product Architecture (furniture and homewares for modern living) and Rock12 Security Architecture (brings design to streetscape elements). Rogers Marvel’s NOGO streetscape elements were exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art in early 2007. In conjunction with BKLYN Designs and ICFF Connected events in May 2006, Jonathan co-curated blockparty, an installation that features Brooklyn-based designers, artists, furniture makers and craftspeople and completely inhabits one of the fourteen State Street Townhouses designed by RMA, now in construction. Other recent projects include rooftop residences, streetscapes security around the New York Stock Exchange and the World Financial Center, headquarters and worldwide retail stores for Kate Spade and Theory, the Studio Museum in Harlem, the Stephen Gaynor School and Ballet Hispanico on the Upper West Side, and the South Fork Museum of Natural History on Long Island, and a New York Public Library in Soho. On the boards are a 50 story tower in lower Manhattan, a nine acre water front park in the Bronx, and a school/museum for the Pfizer Corporation in the original Charles Pfizer laboratory in Williamsburg.
Lucilla Marvel
Lucilla Marvel, AICP, PPL, has more than 30 years of experience in urban and social planning, housing and community development in Puerto Rico. Since establishing Taller de Planificacia's Social (Social Planning Workshop), a consulting firm, in 1973, she has worked with community organizations, private entities, and city and state governments in the preparation of needs analysis, social sector studies, housing plans, and strategic plans. Ms. Marvel co-founded the non- profit Puerto Rico Housing Network in 1996. She is also a member of the Board for the Center for the New Economy, a recently created independent think tank in Puerto Rico and the Chana and Samuel Levis Foundation.
David McConville
David McConville, BFI President as of April 2011, is a media artist and researcher based in Asheville, NC. He is co-founder of The Elumenati, a full service design and engineering firm specializing in the development of immersive visualization environments inspired by Fuller's Geoscope. McConville is founder of the Media Arts Project, an advisory board member of the Black Mountain College Museum + Arts Center, and is currently a PhD candidate in the Planetary Collegium. He worked closely with the BFI to organize the first regional Design Science Lab in 2006 and continues to collaborate with numerous community initiatives to develop systems-oriented solutions to energy, environmental, and educational challenges.
Allegra Fuller Snyder
Allegra Fuller Snyder, Founder, and first President, now Board member emeritus of the Buckminster Fuller Institute, Allegra Fuller Snyder, is Bucky’s only living child. She is also Professor Emerita of Dance and Dance Ethnology, UCLA; 1992 American Dance Guild Honoree of the Year; former Chair of the Department of Dance; and founding Coordinator of the World Arts and Cultures Program. She has been on the Dance Faculty at Cal Arts as well as Professor of Performance Studies at New York University, and Honorary Visiting Professor at the University of Surrey, Guildford, England.She began her career as a performer and choreographer and has been concerned with the relation of dance to film since the late 1940s. She has made several prize winning documentary films on dance. She has done dance research around the world, was the recipient of several Fulbright Scholarships. Among many special projects Snyder was a Core Consultant on the PBS series DANCING for WNET/Channel 13. Recently returning to performance Jennifer Fisher of the LA times said of her in "Spirit Dances 6: Inspired by Isadora," "She was a haiku and an epic."
David Walczyk
Dr. David Walczyk is the principle designer and social innovator at Deeplit, his consultancy. He is also a psychoanalyst-in-training at The C.G. Jung Institute of New York and a Professor at the Pratt Institute of Art and Design where he teaches both human-centered design (design science) and information design. He completed his doctorate with an emphasis in media ecology and human-centered design at Columbia University. Previously, he was a Policy Fellow at the United States National Academy of Sciences in Washington, D.C., a visiting scholar at the United States Library of Congress, a brand strategist on Madison Avenue, and an information designer at both General Electric (GE) Global Research and GE Energy. David’s interest and experience lies at the intersection of the nature/psyche split, particularly as it relates to consciousness, social innovation, human development, and whole-systems thinking and design.
