Update: 2016 Fuller Challenge Entries Under Review

The review process to select the 9th recipient of the prestigious Buckminster Fuller Challenge award is currently underway. BFI has welcomed two outstanding Fellows as well as a renowned group of external advisors to participate in the review process. This year, 52% of Fuller Challenge submissions came from outside of the United States. Limited Edition Offering from BFI

BFI is offering an extraordinary portfolio of prints entitled INVISIBLE – VISIBLE celebrating the profound impact and legacy of R. Buckminster Fuller. Curated by BFI's Executive Director, Elizabeth Thompson, with Daniel Reiser of DRDESIGN, the portfolio includes ten internationally acclaimed contemporary artists invited to create new, unique works honoring Fuller. Twenty portfolios have been created and the proceeds from their acquisition will benefit the on-going work of BFI. Click to view the portfolio.

New Inventory on BFI's Online Store

A number of new and used books by and about Buckminster Fuller are now available on BFI's online store. The new inventory includes rare, out-of-print editions and limited stock is available. Public Utility Challenge: Innovate Payphones

Public Utility Challenge launched the Innovate PayPhones challenge to reinvent the traditional street payphone, with the aim to make cities more accessible, healthier, and safer while enhancing user experience. BFI will participate in judging submissions. Students and professionals in design, technology, and architecture are invited to participate. The extended deadline for submissions is June 23rd at 5pm EST. Click for details.

Laka Competition '16: Architecture that Reacts

Laka invites architects, students, engineers, biologists, sociologists, designers, thinkers and organizations to submit their ideas for innovative architecture that adjusts dynamically to current needs and circumstances. Registration has opened, and early registration (50 USD) will be open until June 1st. The final submission deadline is November 1st, 2016. Click for more information.

You Belong to the Universe: Buckminster Fuller and the Future by Jonathon Keats is a new take on Fuller’s life and how his works are applied today. GreenWave Farm Tour with BFI

2015 Fuller Challenge Winner Bren Smith of GreenWave will give a rare private boat tour of GreenWave's 3D Ocean Farm off of the Thimble Islands in Long Island Sound. Radical Seafaring at the Parrish Art Museum

The Parrish Art Museum's Radical Seafaring exhibition features twenty-five artists with works that range from artist-made vessels, to documentation of creative expeditions, to speculative designs for alternative communities on the water. The featured artists include Buckminster Fuller as well as Mark Dion, Mary Mattingly, and Pedro Reyes, three of the ten artists who contributed to INVISIBLE - VISIBLE - BFI's limited edition print portfolio celebrating the life of Buckminster Fuller.

Fuller Exhibition at Stony Brook University

"Buckminster Fuller: Inventing for Today" will be on display at Stony Brook University's Simons Center Gallery until August 25th, 2016. The exhibition sheds light on Fuller's legacy as a great inventor whose work resonates in art, science, and industry today. It features screenprints, photography, sculpture, and more. SOCAP16 is the world's leading conference on impact investing and social enterprise, to take place September 13-16 in San Francisco.
