ICSID Feature: Ever More with Ever Less

The International Council of Societies for Industrial Design featured an interview with BFI Executive Director Elizabeth Thompson focusing on their current theme of material efficiency. Welcoming Our 2016 Program Fellows

Each year, BFI welcomes a small number of outstanding students or early-career practitioners to our Fellowship Program. The Fellowship provides a unique opportunity to contextualize systems thinking through immersion in the Fuller Challenge review cycle. The 2015-16 Fuller Challenge Catalyst Program entrants have received a number of benefits and opportunities through BFI's network in recent months. The Catalyst Program entrants represent the top 10% of the pool of Fuller Challenge entrants each year. Dymaxion Reading Group

Last year, BFI launched an online reading group focusing on the first two Fuller texts to be digitized into e-books - Operating Manual for Spaceship Earth and Critical Path. The Halcyon Incubator Seeks Social Entrepreneurs

The Halcyon Incubator is seeking intrepid early stage social entrepreneurs with sustainable and scalable models that address critical 21st century challenges. This immersive, residency-based program in Washington DC includes a $10,000 stipend, free workspace, mentoring, and other forms of support. Applications are due by 5pm ET on Tuesday, May 3rd. Biomimicry Food Systems Challenge Deadline

The 2016 Biomimicry Global Design Challenge is open for entries. Submissions should address a Food Systems problem while intentionally emulating one of nature's mechanisms, processes, patterns, or systems. Click to read more about the requirements for this competition, which has both Open and Student categories. The final submission deadline is May 11th, 2016.

Public Utility Challenge: Innovate Payphones

Public Utility Challenge is launching the Innovate PayPhones challenge to reinvent the traditional street payphone, with the aim to make cities more accessible, healthier, and safer while enhancing user experience. BFI will participate in judging submissions. Students and professionals in design, technology, and architecture are invited to participate. The deadline for submissions is May 12th, 2016 at 5pm EST. Laka Competition '16: Architecture that Reacts

Laka invites architects, students, engineers, biologists, sociologists, designers, thinkers, and organizations to submit their ideas for innovative architecture that adjusts dynamically to current needs and circumstances. Early registration (50 USD) is open until June 1st. The final submission deadline is November 1st, 2016. Click for more information.

Eleven Competition: Architectural Solutions for San Francisco's Tenderloin

BFI Outreach Partner Eleven announced their latest architecture and idea challenge: ‘San Francisco 2016 - Tenderloin System Update’. BFI will serve on the jury for the competition. Click for details from the press release.
