End of an Era: Thank you from Elizabeth Thompson

Read a letter from Elizabeth Thompson reflecting on her work as BFI's Executive Director over the past 12 years. Elizabeth will transition out of her role to focus exclusively on the Buckminster Fuller Challenge as it head into its 10th anniversary cycle, serving as its Founding Director. Included here is an overview of her work on the development of BFI's educational programs, the Fuller Challenge, work with artists, curators, and cultural institutions, as well as historic restorations and commissions.

BFI Welcomes New Executive Director

BFI is pleased to announce that Amanda Joy Ravenhill has been named Executive Director. With deep nonprofit leadership experience and a passion for a just world that works for 100% of humanity, Ravenhill is uniquely positioned to assist the BFI in continuing to evolve Fuller-inspired concepts and strategies for the 21st century. Global Urban Innovators: A Community of Startups

Global Urban Innovators is a program of the New Cities Foundation that supports a community of trailblazing international urban tech companies. The program chooses innovators for their radically new approaches to improving cities around the world, who will have the opportunity to showcase their work at the New Cities Summit to take place in June 2017 in South Korea. Biomimicry Global Design Challenge

A soil restoration innovation won the $100,000 Biomimicry Global Design Challenge Ray of Hope Prize™, and the 2017 Biomimicry Global Design Challenge focusing on climate change was recently opened for entries. Eleven Magazine asked thinkers, architects, designers, artists, academics, and visionaries from around the world to imagine innovative solutions for Moontopia – the first ever self-sufficient lunar colony designed for living, working, researching, and even tourism. Exhibition: New Perspectives on the Work of Frei Otto

The ZKM Center for Art and Media in Karlsruhe is hosting an exhibition of the late Frei Otto's works, including over 200 design models, objects, tools and instruments, more than 1,000 photos, drawings, sketches, plans and films, as well as various large-scaled media projections. The exhibition will be on display until the 12th of March. Find more information here.

Between Data and Senses: Architecture, Neuroscience and the Digital Worlds

The cross-over between the digital and the physical is being increasingly addressed in design disciplines, architecture, arts and urban studies. "Between Data and Senses", a conference on architecture, neuroscience and the digital worlds, will examine how digital and physical works overlap and what methods, approaches and findings architects can borrow from sciences.
