Black Mountain Songs at BAM

During his time at Black Mountain College, Buckminster Fuller was in full engagement and collaboration with a veritable who’s who of artistic and creative minds of the mid-century, including faculty members Robert Rauschenberg, Willem de Kooning, John Cage, Merce Cunningham, and Josef and Anni Albers, as well as former students Ruth Asawa and Kenneth Snelson.

Taking this fertile cross-collaboration of artistic disciplines as an inspiration, the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) and the Brooklyn Youth Chorus are producing performance of pieces from eight composers, including “[Bryce] Dessner, Parry, Pulitzer Prize winner Caroline Shaw, Nico Muhly, Aleksandra Vrebalov, John King, and Tim Hecker”, with visuals by filmmaker Matt Wolf (Wild Combination: A Portrait of Arthur Russell).

The performances, sung by the Brooklyn Youth Chorus, will take place November 20-23 at BAM Harvey theater, as part of BAM’s 2014 Next Wave Festival.
