Plant Chicago
2011 Semi-Finalist

SUMMARY: Plant Chicago discovers new ways to integrate sustainable urban agriculture and manufacturing in disused industrial structures. We close energy and waste loops in the built environment by directing the waste output of one process into the material or energy input of another through research, development and training of community members.

Polydome
2012 Semi-Finalist

SUMMARY: Polydome is a greenhouse design paradigm that uses a symbiotic ecosystem of plants, animals, and fungi to maximize food output and eliminate environmental impact. A realistic and investible answer to the world's need for sustainable food production, Polydome generates high yields, links biophysical and social flows, and creates meaningful jobs.

POWERleap
2011 Catalyst Program

POWERleap has developed a means to generate 100% renewable energy with nothing more than human footsteps. Our solution is a flooring system that uses piezoelectric technology to convert kinetic energy from people into electricity. Current tests show that 1 kwh of energy can be generated from a 50 m2 area.

PREPHub
2017 Catalyst Program

PREPHubs are a new kind of urban infrastructure designed to increase natural disaster resilience. Technologically innovative off-grid units are strategically placed to activate public spaces, while encouraging neighborhoods to build preparedness into their lives. Should a disaster occur, they become nodes to access information, resources and connect with loved ones.

Procesos Proambientales Xaquixe
2017 Semi-Finalist

Procesos Proambientales Xaxquixe (PPX) has created a methodology for micro-industrial sustainability by implementing alternative energy technologies adapted to materials from local waste streams. This system fosters a trans-disciplinary network of small enterprises, or Ecoclusters, composed of trained local specialists who share knowledge and resources to enrich communities and economies.

QuaDror
2011 Semi-Finalist

SUMMARY: The QuaDror Universal Joint is a new space truss geometry, lending itself to a wide scope of applications. QuaDror Homes provide integrated design, preserving the organic diversity of cultures and ecosystems.

RECYCLING & ECO TRAINING CENTRE
2014 Catalyst Program

SUMMARY: To implement a low cost effective way to turn plastic pollution into a leading- edge solution by utilizing the plastic waste and compressing it into blocks which can be used for sustainable building construction. Plastic waste is collected, cleaned, recycled and then compressed into blocks to be used as building.

Rising Canes Bamboo City
2016 Catalyst Program

Architecture and the construction process are a major contribution to our global environmental pollution. Our initiative promotes an ecological alternative of growing our cities. All elements are locally harvested and produced in one local ecosystem, with the least amount of impact on the environment or on the materials itself.

SCRAP LAB
2016 Catalyst Program

SCRAP LAB is a mission, aiming at using scientific discoveries, art and design to combat wastes creatively and collectively. 9-steps upcycling-process was developed and applied to manufacturers, communities and building-contractors throughout Thailand to upcycle wastes into new products and supports them with Upcycle-certification-scheme (world's first) to verify their reduced carbon-emissions.

SmartLight
2016 Catalyst Program

SmartLight is a new, smart-phone controlled lighting system that incorporates a thin film of small electrofluidic prisms applied to portions of glazing that redirects sunlight on demand from a building's facade to spaces deep within with any surplus light diverted to centralized photovoltaic harvesting.

Sustainable Disaster Response
