(C)urban Ecology is a simple, rugged, modular, micro-remediation system that can be surgically inserted into our streets and can operate with minimal maintenance. It is conceived as a network of channels and voids, and employs Buckminster Fuller’s central notion of “doing more with less".

BerkShares are an experiment in relocalization and economic democracy: a currency that engages citizens in the Berkshires of Western Massachusetts in supporting and developing local businesses to meet local needs, thereby decreasing reliance on fossil fuel and imports from afar. BerkShares also inspire communities worldwide to create similar local solutions.

The Galveston project explores conversion of oil rigs to repair coastal regions in two phases. Proto-One establishes community support with a sophisticated housing system utilizing hurricane waste. Proto-Two, a parallel protoCooperative initiative, uses a mineral extraction process to transform the oil and water-purification industries through the use of waste brine as a mineral source for a wide variety of uses.

BK Farmyard reconnects farmers and consumers as co-producers of the landscape and food culture. The strategy takes advantage of the existing urban fabric of Brooklyn neighborhoods to reclaim privately held green spaces as farms.

Our purpose is to bring about a revolution in the efficiency of energy production and consumption by addressing the fundamental problems of engine and heat pump inefficiency.

"Civic Ads: Public Smart” is a bold proposal based on the assumption that public space should claim civic content in the urban iconography, and that already situated networks of communication technologies provide a compelling infrastructure for ecological and socially responsible information.

We began thinking about an effective, large-scale intervention in May 2007. We impaneled expert advisors in climate science, economics, ethics, social science, and social marketing, and the CDC funded our planning conference in February 2008. NOAA funded a meeting of experts to assess public attitudes about climate change.
