The YWCA will identify advanced manufacturing opportunities that can be established within local communities to leverage existing community assets.

Affordable Passive House Prototype
2014 Catalyst Program

The affordable Passive House Prototype (PHP) is a groundbreaking concept of affordable housing using renewable energy sources such as solar PV power, bio-gas from bio-digesters, harvested rainwater and bio-climatic design to achieve thermal cooling and natural ventilation. The buildings are constructed from locally available compressed earth blocks and bamboo components.

African Christians Organization Network
2016 Catalyst Program

This project supplies alternatives to the open fire 3-stone cooking method common in Africa. Their community-driven efforts address multiple environmental threats on local scale and provide new modes for income generation.

Agbogbloshie Makerspace Platform (AMP)
2017 Catalyst Program

Agbogbloshie Makerspace Platform is a transnational STEAM*-powered, intercultural/interclass stellate design initiative to transform the materials processing and recycling zone of Agbogbloshie scrapyard typified in global media as the world's biggest e-waste dump meme into a human-spatial network for distributed manufacturing and digital fabrication to drive a global circular economy.

Agrarian Trust
2015 Semi-Finalist

Agrarian Trust’s goal is to nurture the birth of a paradigm shifting, cooperatively owned farmland commons.

Airponix Ltd
2017 Catalyst Program

Our mission is to further develop our technology to help eliminate world hunger. The optimum Airponix soilless agricultural system uses nutrient containing water fogs (not mists) to grow food crops in low-cost climate-change resilient protective enclosures, minimising environmental impact with radically improved yields (20 times) and water savings (85%).

Algae Systems
2015 Finalist

Inspired by Buckminster Fuller’s assertion that “pollution is nothing but resources we’re not harvesting,” Algae Systems uses a closed-loop, systemic approach to generate value from wastewater, providing a crucial, economically and environmentally sustainable service.

Algal Turf Scrubbing
2014 Semi-Finalist

Algal Turf Scrubbing generates a fast growing, easily harvested, filamentous polyculture of hundreds of natural, locally adapted algae species over a new, highly efficient 3D screen surface beneath a shallow flow of water to oxygenate and purify water, produce biomass for biofuel and organic fertilizer, mitigate pollution from agricultural run-off, improve freshwater and coastal habitats, and sequester carbon and reduce fossil fuel dependency.

Appropedia
2008 Semi-Finalist

Our vision, called Appropedia, is built upon the remarkable success of wiki-based infrastructures. Appropedia is expanding this concept to include collaborative research, development and problem-solving by incorporating real-world experiences.

AquaFresco
2016 Catalyst Program

AquaFresco is reinventing the $50B cleaning market, including laundry, carwash and industrial cleaning. We developed a novel water recycle system, cutting 95% of water and detergent use. With this technology, our customers can use just one batch of soapy water to do cleaning such as laundry for 6 months.

Architecture Beyond CAD
2018

The fundamental idea is that anything very complex comes to be, or is engineered, in the way this happens in the physical world, where each new development is a causal derivation from some previous state. Causal derivations from simple initial states to complex final states are the logically possible way to secure consistent and manageable complex wholes.
