Sustainability: The 5 Core Principles
A New Framework

The Sustainability dialogues began on July 10th and due to the sustained quality and level of interest was extended until August 18th 2006. The principles were developed by Michael Ben-Eli, a former student and close collaborator of Buckminster Fuller. Michael will actively participate and facilitate the Dialogue.

BFI is hosting this dialogue out of our commitment to further Buckminster Fuller's legacy and vision of delivering complete sustainable success for all humanity.

The 5 Core Principles are informed by several existing frameworks and inspired, in particular, by Fuller's work. They were developed to advance our understanding of what must guide our actions if we intend to implement breakthrough sustainability practices.

In his pioneering work, Fuller insisted on rigorous exploration of "first principles" as the crucial starting point of any design process.

Some scientific principles, such as the laws of thermodynamics, have achieved universal acceptance and a high degree of operational clarity. But do we have the equivalent clarity with the principles of sustainability and lacking it, can we hope to achieve sustainability as a prevailing state?

Here at BFI, we think this is a critically important question that must be explored.
Please join us in this exciting and timely inquiry and do spread the word!
