BFI's 24 foot Fly's Eye Dome will be on view for the duration of the Mobile-living exhibition.
The Future Has Arrived
From new designs by America's classic Airstream Trailers, Adam Kalkin's Push Button House shown at Art Basel Miami, to Shiguro Ban's Paper Tube Architecture featured in MOMA's Safe Exhibition — Mobile Living is in the forefront of design. Mobile homes, prefab homes, temporary homes all address the need for new innovative methods of housing.
Our ever increasing need to be in touch, stay in touch, work from wherever we are, has created new technology where computers and phones are the tools that drive the new economy and support our new nomadic way of life. Automobiles, airplanes, and hotel rooms have become our home away from home with many of us spending more hours there than in the actual spaces we own.
Organized by David Shearer and Miguel Calvo and presented by Exhibitions International (EI) and International Design Network Foundation (IDNF), this curated event will take place in the spectacular 18,000 square foot Skylight Studios Gallery, Soho, NYC. Mobile Living will exhibit the unparalleled advancements in our society that have manifested our modern nomadic lifestyle. Mixing art, design and technology this will be a groundbreaking presentation, running concurrently with the International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF), May 21-23, 2006.
Mobile homes, mobile phones, mobile computing, transportation, indoor and outdoor furniture are all topics addressed in the show. Special educational components include a film series, lectures and panel discussion, special exhibition components will be presented. The future is now!
This event will offer a unique look into the way people live and work in the new mobile society. A conference will feature speakers who will communicate their message to a select group of style-makers and design cognoscenti in town for New York's premier design fair.
Zipcar will shuttle attendees from the Javits Center to Mobile Living and other coordinated satellite locations such as the New Museum, Whitney, Tribeca/Soho Grand where complimentary programming and educational components will take place.
