Weather Professionals can add Environmental Reporting to Job Description
In Atlanta as other communities we have so many well trained Meteorologists. The past weekend I saw well meaning reporters out in a 1.5 inch snow commenting on the size of snowflakes. Each evening these great communicators with a background in science tell us what we already know ( 99 % of the time ). It is raining!
I am sending a proposal to the AMS to consider adding environmenal reporting to its bag of tricks. What a perfect match. Well trained reporters with a basic education in science should add local environmental issues to the nightly broadcast.....
Example: " Hi, the is Anthony Park with EPU and tonight you can see the major areas in Georgia currently in the Superfund sites. The level of toxins in our waters today are " ....you get the idea.
As our society deals with rapid changes in technology, it would enable the members of AMS to both preserve
jobs and serve the community in a very meaningful way. Lets reach out to these professionals and engage them in a dialogue. They have our attention every day and can be a powerful change agent for good!
Anthony W. Park, EPU Georgia
