Does anyone(Neal?) know how the fly's-eye dome went this past weekend in New York? I haven't heard anything yet.

Hey everyone, I have designed and built several domes in the past 7 years -- though I have to admit I have designed many, many more than I have built (but that's not including various scale models, homes, toys, crafts, etc.). I think I have an easier way to understand the geometry/math of icosahedral domes (visually speaking).

Further, I reckon the best method to build dome homes is likely the hubless "node" method with drop-in panels/windows -- easy to build, inexpensive, requires no special parts (i.e. hub-connectors, etc.), no scaffolding or heavy equipment, all "off-the-shelf" materials, etc. 2 able-bodied people, a dozen tools, and 2 weeks or less (from riser-wall or foundation) can build a 28' to 50' dome (with an R-Value of at least 30 too!). But this comment may be best suited to the wood-to-wood connection vs. the wood-to-metal comment section (?).

Sal from the Yahoo! Group GeodesicDomeHomes likes this calculator.

"The link below will take you to a download page for a demo of Cadge
Geo. This is one of the best dome calculators I have seen. The
dihedral angles are given along with panel dimensions and quantities.
You can spend many hours playing with variations of frequency and
degrees of 'squashing'. Of course, anything but the hemispheric dome
will increase the complexity of the fabrication job."
