Fuller and the work of BFI Reach Widest Audience Yet in 2015

The impact of our work is approaching an all-time high as we reach an increasingly broad audience. In just the last month, Fuller’s legacy and our own work have been profiled in The Guardian, Nature, the New Yorker, NPR, Observer.com, and PBS News Hour. Read below for summaries of recent coverage.

Nature’s “Sustainability: The launch of Spaceship Earth
Following the release of the first digital version of Fuller’s Operating Manual for Spaceship Earth, and BFI’s first-ever Dymaxion Reading Group on the same text, this fascinating Nature article cited Operating Manual (1969) among four other prescient classics that first made sustainability a public issue in the 1960s and 1970s.

Buckminster Fuller Was Built to Last” by Sir Norman Foster
Sir Norman Foster, chairman and founder of Foster + Partners in England, chose to reflect on the influence of Buckminster Fuller for his essay in “The Mentors Issue” of Observer.com. He describes Bucky as “the very essence of moral conscience” and notes that he “cared about the environment before it was fashionable“. Fuller’s World Game Explored
Following the Information Fall-Out exhibit at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Architecture Planning and Preservation, this Curbed Article explores Fuller’s World Game, in which the goal is to “make the world work, for 100% of humanity, in the shortest possible time, through spontaneous cooperation, without ecological offense or the disadvantage of anyone.”

“World’s First Tensegrity Bridge”
A recent Dezeen article explains how Fuller’s concept of tensegrity informed the design of the Kurilpa Bridge in Brisbane, Australia. The bridge was erected in 2009 by Cox Rayner Architects (the Brisbane studio of Australian firm Cox Architecture) and Arup.
